The Department of Public Safety is located at 36 North Main Street on the 1st floor of the City Hall Building.

The Public Safety Office provides: 

  • An open-to-the- public bus transportation service. This route includes the City of Mechanicville, Hemstreet Park & Riverside areas. Questions regarding the schedule can be answered by calling our bus info line at 664-5444. 
     
  • An eight-week youth summer program offering many activities and field trips. The program usually begins at the end of June or first week of July and runs through the third week of August. The schedule of activities can be picked-up at the parks or Pub1ic Safety Office. 
  • Public parks and playgrounds with supervised, summer hours
    A wading pool is located at the Park Avenue Playground on the west end of town.  Other sites include the South Main Street Playground, at the south end of town and the Tenendaho Playground located behind the Townhouses on Tenendaho Lane. (Tenendaho site is not supervised). Park and playground hours are Monday thru Friday 11:00AM - 4:00PM
     
  • Assistance to families in need, through referrals and assistance with the application process. 
  • Emergency Assistance to families in need, funded by the Salvation Army. 
  • Notary Public Services 
  • Animal complaints 
  • Safety Issues/Property Complaints - Working closely with the Building Code and Enforcement Officer.
Senior Citizens Services:

Commissioner Jo Ann Rielly is also director of the Mechanicville Senior Citizens Center. The Senior Citizen Facility is located at 178 No. Main Street. Office hours are 9:00AM to 4:00PM and the phone number is 664-7877.  The Senior Center offers activities and a 60+ dining program sponsored by the City of Mechanicville and Saratoga County Office For the Aging (meal provided Monday through Friday at noon). Reservations should be made the day before. The Meal Program and Meals on Wheels contact number is 664-3924. 
Judy Schmelter, Elder Care Services Coordinator, provides outreach services to our Seniors. Judy can be reached at 664-6685. 
A Senior Newsletter is published monthly, with a schedule of activities and updates on senior programs. Many of the activities at the Center have been ongoing for years, the newer ones have been introduced by our Elder Care Services Coordinator. Newsletters can be picked-up at the Senior Center or Public Safety Office. If you join the Senior Organization, your name will be added to the newsletter mailing list.
